I was searching through a Time magazine excerpt the other day and found that there is a thing called a skype phone that was sweeping the internet.You would be amazed what these two intelligent sparks did to make themselves a small fortune, they sold it to ebay.So why am I getting so pumped up?.A lot of people call it voip.It is not a new idea, making long distance calls over the internet for free.

The implications are obvious, the first being that if you can connect a video phone to skipe, you can talk and see just about anyone anywhere in the world.It is essentail you get a rapid connection as quickly as you can.Video is still in its infancy so you wont always get an amazing picture.

So I went on Ebay and yes you guessed it, they are peddling phones already due to skyp.We think skype has been in existence for a year to date and it is proving immensely popular.

The bigger commercial telecom firms are beginning to sell voice over internet protocol packages.The question on everyones lips is will it last the distance.Is it here to stay or will it have vanished off the face of the net within twelve months.

If previous experience is anything to go by then we can expect the big players to examine voip in microscopic detail.Then inevitably the feds will come in and regulate it.At the moment skype makes its money by charging people who phone land lines from their laptop using it.

It seems like voice over interet protocol is also at the forefront of web video conferencing as well. With 911 happenning relatively recently more people want to travel less and less so it is a great opportunity for voip to put video conferencing back on the map.

Audio and video are becoming more accessible for everyone nowadays-in this day and age especially with the massive success of youtube.Many people think video and audio will be a passing fad but all the evidence points in the other direction.

The next decade will be make or break for the world of voip and only the consumers will tell us whether the free skype download is worth shouting home about.We will know fairly soon how it performs .
