Segovia,

Just a minor point on your comments regarding IE 6/7.0/whatever version: There are websites that were not not built to run on anything BUT IE browsers, unfortunately.

In addition to IE, I have Firefox and I have Opera (which I like the most). But, for things like my online banking, neither Firefox or Opera works. Only IE works to make those darn buttons activate the Javascript buried in the HTML.

My point here is to just let you know there are valid reasons why people are sticking with IE as a browser...because we have to. :-)

Segovia - I would definitely be interested to know what plugins you find most useful. There are only 24 hours in a day to get 50 hours worth of stuff done so I really appreciate it when people can give recommendations from the vast array of tools available today!

Hey Mark,

I'm not sure what type of sites you are administering but there is plenty of proof online that IE is the downfall of the Internet. I think it all comes down to who your target market is and how web savvy they are.

Check out:
http://www.silverstripe.com/google-summer-of-code-fruit-9-safari3-support/

They show their stats to be 64% Firefox and only 24% IE.

Personally I hate IE as a developer as it's always causing me to work twice as hard to make a site look good and not display broken tables and other glitchy stuff.

Hey Russ,

I guess it was a bit harsh to say those using IE are in the dark ages. It would be more appropriate to say if someone was still running on Windows 95. ;-)

I run multiple computers both Mac and PC with various versions of both Firefox and MS IE6.0 and 7.0 so that I can run many different tests when designing for browser compatibility.

Mark, you are absolutely right in terms of the vast majority of web surfers still to this day will be using some version of IE simply because it comes pre-loaded on every Windows machine. However from a marketing stand point I have found over the last year or so that I've been using Firefox there are just a lot more cool features and plugins available, so for those that haven't discovered it yet, go check it out.

AJ, you rock! I love hearing about peoples successes whether it be something I referred you to or just in general. Keep up the good work and I'd love to hear how you're organic ranking in the SERPs is going, so keep me posted.

Cheers,
Segovia

PS. I'll take some time over the next week or so and compile a list of all the firefox plugins that I find really help me from either a marketing or time saving perspective.

Segovia- I just wanted to follow up my last comment from yesterday. With the plugin you recommended, in the last 24 hours, I have been able to analyze the top-10 organic results in the search engines for the keywords I want to dominate. Now I know exactly where I need to focus my back linking strategy as well as what tweaks I need to do to my own pages to focus the page rank the way my competitors do. And, with the plugin you recommended, what would have taken me weeks to do, I did in a day.

Thanks again for the time saver. -A.J.

Hi There Segovia,

I guess I'm one of those "dark ages" folks! lol Even went through the M$ IT training program - MCSE! Check your web site stats and look at the per-centage of users browser choice. You'll see that most of YOUR visitors are still in the dark ages too! My most busy site showed MSIE as 58.7% of visitors and Firefox as 30.8%.

Best browser choice aside - I've been checking into Firefox and installed it on one of my PCs. It seems like a good tool. The plug-ins for it are also really good. (Thanks to Russ for the post above - didn't know about the seo-inc toolbar.) So I'd like to say thank you for taking the time to share the SEO Firefox plug-in! There never seems to be enough time in a day to learn everything I want to learn! Posts like yours make it a little easier for folks like me. So thanks again for sharing!

Mark

PS - More reviews and sharing your other plug-ins sounds like a great idea to me!

Though the firefox tool you have mentioned is cool, I do not think I would say I am in the "dark ages" using Internet Explorer. You can do the same things in IE you mentioned by using this plug-in http://www.seoinc.com/seo-toolbar/

Segovia- I've come to count on you to keep me up to date on all the little tools you've found to make our job easier. Once again, you have not dissappointed. This is one of the coolest plugins I've installed. Thank you.

What are the other 11? -A.J.
