Hey Robert,

Good question, your business cards play an important roll in your offline marketing and networking strategies.

Posted from Marketing Minute eGram Week #1:

How do I create business cards with an irresistible offer and an ethical bribe? Must I purchase Desktop publishing program and create my own template or have you folks created a handy template online yet?

If you do want to create an “Irresistible Offer”, my advice would be to put all your main particulars on the front of your business card with an icon or indicator in the lower left or right corner that says “Turn Me Over“.

Then on the backside of your card, simply make them the same offer that you give away on your Shy-Yes page. For example, with MarketingMinute.com we give away Alex Mandossian’s Action Secrets - 7 part mini-course along with the complete transcripts.

So in our case I would say “Claim your free copy of Action Secrets and learn 7 time tested techniques to get more done faster, better and with less human effort“.

Then you can simply put the web site address in large bold lettering below it to direct people to your Shy-Yes offer.

Hope this helps,
Segovia Smith

Narrowing Your Keyword Research

Marketing Minute - Weekly Q MarketingMinute.com - Get to the heart of a

Hey Lawton,

Thanks for the question…

Posted from Marketing Minute eGram Week #2:

When doing keyword research, how narrow do the search numbers need to be? When is there too much competition based on the number of people who searched?

I would assume you’re either searching for a niche space to break into, or you already have a site and just building your keyword list.

The total search volume is only one of a few factors to consider, you also want to check out a few other numbers to help guide your marketing efforts.

  • STEP 1: Go to SearchForMyKeywords.com and find out how many estimated visitors your targeted phrases will get per month. Keep in mind this is based on the Overture database which is only about 10% of the web’s total traffic. So if it’s estimating that search phrase would receive 193 visitors per month, you could multiply it by x10 to get a more accurate representation of total Net wide search volume (1,930).
  • STEP 2: Next you want to do a search for the keyword phrase on Google and look for the total number of returned results, this will be shown in the top right hand corner like “Results 1 of 100 of about 1,326,788 for keywords…”. This will tell you a broad range of how many pages are indexed with a similar keyword DNA.
  • STEP 3: Finally, you want to do the same keyword search in Google, but this time put quotes around your keyword phrase (E.g. “free keyword search tool”). This will tell you more likely how many competing pages are in the index. The result will usually range between 0 to 50,000. You want to find keyword phrases that tend to be in the lower range (under 5,000 is a good place to start).

This should help you in the right direction, if you are looking for a good free keyword research tools you can find one at GoodKeywords.com, but if you are tired of spending hours or even days trying to find the best keywords… and if you are serious about your Adwords, PPC or SEO then you truly need to invest in Brad Callen’s Keyword Elite software.

Writing an Eye-Catching Headline

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Marketing Minute - Weekly Q MarketingMinute.com - Get to the heart of a

$250,000 in less than 5 minutes per week…

Dear L. Dokteur,

Thanks for the question…

Posted from Marketing Minute eGram Week #1:

Is there a template one can use for writing an eye catching headline? And also one for a squeeze page?

I don’t really have a headline that you can just use, if I did it woud be called the “Magic Bullet” and those never really tend to work accross every industry.

However, your best bet is to go check out some of the major fashion and glamour magazine web sites along with anything else found at your local grocery store check-out stand. Then while your at it, take a peek through the headlines on the front page of any national newspaper.

If you do this online, you can just cut and paste them into a note pad or word doc (also known as a swipe file). Then the next time you need a good headline simply make a few word modifications and voila, you’ve got yourself a killer headline that some guy in the editing staff of a multi-million dollar magazine probably took a few days thinking up.

Okay here’s an example:

I just surfed over to FashionMagazine.com and picked one from their front cover. It’s not the best but it’ll due.

The Many Shades of Marc
The eye-catching new line of specs and
sunglasses from designer Marc Jacobs.

Now if I wanted to convert this into a headline for something I might be able to use I could say…

A Thin Slicing of Alex Mandossian
The mind-motivating new Marketing Minute
course stirs up the IM Community…

Here is another example I took from Elle.com:

60 Second Styles
’80’s denim is back
and cooler than you think

Now for my quick copy change-over:

Can You Spare 300 Second?
Alex Mandossian blows ‘em away
with a single 5 minute audio clip…

I’m sure you’re starting to get the idea. This type of ad writing can be used for headlines, subject lines, opening paragraphs and even your Google Adwords.

Make it a Great Day!
